How to Download a File from a Website in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11
What you need: A Windows 11 computer with Microsoft Edge open on the website that has the document or picture you want, with a link or button labelled Download for it. To open Edge on a website, follow How to Go to a Website by Typing Its Address in Microsoft Edge on Windows 11.
Steps
- On the website, find the Download link or button for the document or picture you want.
- Click it once.
- Look at the upper-right corner of the Edge window. A Downloads list opens there and shows the file's name.
- Wait while the file downloads. When it has finished, Open file shows under the file's name. If the list closes before you open the file, click the three dots in a row (Settings and more) at the right end of the row with the address bar, then click Downloads to show the list again.
- Click Open file under the file's name. The file opens in the app the computer uses for that kind of file. A PDF document usually opens in a new tab in Edge.
Expected result: The file you downloaded is open. To find it again later, look in the Downloads folder by following How to Look for a Downloaded File in Downloads on Windows 11.
