How to Double-Click, Right-Click and Drag on Windows 11
What you need: A Windows 11 computer with a mouse or a touchpad, and a web page with words on it open on the screen, such as the practice page that opens when you click Start the demo below these steps on the website.
Steps
- To double-click a word, put the pointer on a word in the middle of a line of plain words, not on a link (links are often blue or underlined). Keeping the pointer still, press the left mouse button (or the lower-left part of the touchpad) twice quickly. The word is highlighted, shown with a colored background. If it is not, try again a little faster, without moving the pointer between the two presses. If two quick presses are still hard, give yourself more time to double-click.
- To right-click the highlighted word, keep the pointer on it and press the right mouse button (or the lower-right corner of the touchpad) once. A small menu of choices, such as Copy, opens beside the pointer.
- To close the menu without choosing anything, click once on an empty part of the page, away from the menu and the words. The menu closes.
- To highlight a whole line, put the pointer on a short line of plain words, such as a heading, and press the left mouse button (or the lower-left part of the touchpad) three times quickly, keeping the pointer still. The whole line is highlighted.
- To drag, put the pointer just in front of the first letter of a word. Hold down the left mouse button, move the pointer to the end of a word further along the line, and release the button. On a touchpad, press down on its lower-left part and keep pressing while you slide your finger, then lift it. The words you moved across are highlighted.
Expected result: You highlighted one word by double-clicking, opened and closed a right-click menu, highlighted a whole line by clicking three times, and highlighted several words by dragging across them.
